Winds Cause House and Tree Damage

Yesterday around 7:30 PM it hit without much warning. The sun was shining one minute, the next minute the sky turned black and the wind started blowing extremely hard. Wilma and I were on the second floor when we started hearing the wind. I jumped up, looked outside, noticed the trees were blowing in circular directions. The house started to make cracking noises coming from the attic or roof. The rain was falling in circular directions, then came the hale. We started to head for the basement, but by the time we got to the basement door the wind stopped. Very, very creepy indeed. We both looked outside and found this in our side yard.

There was 7 branches that were snapped off in one of two trees on our side yard. Half of the branches landed in the front yard next to the tree, the others were in our side yard.

Snapped off limbs from severe winds

We also have two decorative trees between the sidewalk and street in the front yard. One of them suffered wind fatigue. It is now leaning toward our home.

My "Now Leaning" tree from the force of the wind

The tree damage wasn’t the only thing damaged. We also have a small amount of Home damage.

Aluminum trim blown off house

Gutter Helmet and shingle damage.

A phone call to the insurance company was made, not being opened I ended up talking to their answering service. I expect I won’t hear from them until Monday sometime.

Looking NE at our home

It amazes me how “mother nature” works. So much damage from one healthy tree and just 30 feet away no damage at all to the other tree. And on the home just the two minor pieces of damage. We were truly blessed.

Until next time, be safe and God bless.

Garden n Flowers

I haven’t been able to find a cause as of yet, but there is something wrong with the garden. It seems the new leaves are not forming correctly. This is happening on the tomato plants and the jalapeno plants.

Jalapeno Plants

Jalapeno Plants

Not just a few of the plants, but all 6 of the Jalapeno plants. I looked for aphids or other bugs finding none.

The leaves form in curls.

No sign of any bugs or worms on the tomato’s . Very puzzling indeed. Eye rolling smile Maybe one of my readers might leave a comment with a reason or suggestion.

The Roma tomato's look great.

One side of the garden are the Jalapeno plants and Roma tomato plants. To the left of that row is the Early Girl tomato plants that are not looking as healthy.

Most of the Early Girl tomato's are not looking as healthy.

Wilma however is not having any such problems with her plants. They all look great!

The roses are finally taking hold and blooming.

Her moss roses are doing great also. She planted them on both sides of the walkway to the deck.

Can’t forget the other side of the yard where she created a “rock garden” to show off her flowers.

I guess it’s a case of “The Beauty and the Beast” for us this year. Wilma’s plants looking great, mine not so great.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!

Yesterday we celebrated our 43rd. wedding anniversary with our very best friends Gary and Cheryl. Not knowing to us, they treated us out to dinner plus for desert a “No Sugar Added” pie with candles was brought to our table at the end of dinner. What a great surprise! After dinner we headed back home for the guys to challenge the gals at Euchre. The gals won, 3 games to 2. Embarrassed smile

Here we are 43 years ago.

My gosh we were just kids at 20 and 19. But we had true love, and the world by the tail! What a wonderful life we have been blessed with. We are looking forward to the future of celebrating many many more anniversaries.

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Birthday’s and Bicycle Parade

Several years ago, maybe 6 or more, a Grandfather had an idea to share with his grandchildren when they came for a visit on July 4th. He brought out his riding lawn mower, hiked his grandchild aboard, and took a short drive around the block. The following year he did this again, this time with his other grandchildren following him on their bikes. The following year once again with many neighborhood kids riding their bikes. This parade grew in size until most everyone in the sub division either joined in or watched taking up their seats in front of their homes.

Enjoying the Bike Parade

Then came the Antique Fire Truck, driven by a volunteer fireman, with the Mayor riding along. The local Ambulance company furnished an Ambulance with lights and siren blowing.

The parade passes our home!

Each year that passed the parade became larger and larger. More and more neighbors joined in.

No end in sight!

This year we even had a famous Congressman. Sandy Levin joined in on the parade.

Our fire department won’t be out done, so they followed up with their Ladder Truck.

What a great parade! And a great way to get the family together for some Brats and Dogs and to celebrate Wilma’s and Grandson Dakota’s birthdays.

Nana and Dakota celebrate BDay's blowing out the candles

Dakota celebrates his 16th. birthday this year, and Wilma celebrates her… Eye rolling smile …maybe we won’t tell the number of birthday’s. Both of them enjoyed their special day once again.

16 Year Old Grandson Dakota

A different generation I guess, I just can’t figure out the reason for the weird hair on these kids today. Disappointed smile Oh well, he is my Grandson and no matter what I love him!

Wilma finds a surprise.

And can you tell Wilma is enjoying her Birthday wishes today?

Wilma had a surprise visit from her niece Taleaitha, whom she hasn’t seen in years!

Niece Taleaitha with Wilma

What a great time was had by all today, now we can look forward to listening to WWIII this evening, and trying to comfort our little pug, Kybee. Hopefully the loud bangs won’t last too long into the night.

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Mackinaw Island

Twenty five years ago my kid sister, Catherine, was married at St. Anne's Church on Mackinaw Island. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect day for a wedding. The weather was warm and sunny, with a very slight breeze blowing off Lake Huron.

This past Sunday was their celebration to renew their vows that were taken 25 years ago, and we were honored to attend.

We started the day off with a view of a perfect sunrise, taken from the balcony of our hotel room.

We boarded the Arnold Catamaran Shuttle Service for our boat ride to and from Mackinaw Island. We were treated to a detour to view the underside of the Mackinaw Bridge on our way to Mackinaw Island.

P6300091

I have driven over the Bridge several times, but this was the very first time I have seen the underside of the Bridge from a boat.

P6300094

As a small child my father took movies of the Bridge under construction. I still have those movies my father took from a boat ride to Mackinaw Island years ago. Precious memories and video.

P6300096

Arriving on the Island, we decided to walk to the Grand Hotel from main street. An uphill walk of about a mile.

P6300101

The beautiful day made the walk very enjoyable, along with the beautiful sites.

P6300107

The ceremony was to take place in the Pontiac Room which is at the far East end Porch level, of the Hotel. In the photo above, that room would be the second floor far right, just above the red and white awnings.

P6300115

Walking through the main lobby, you turn right. Walk through the Main Dining Room, which seems to be as large as a football field, and then into the Pontiac Room.

P6300111

Finally arriving at the Pontiac Room at the far end of the Main Dining room. A comfortable room just perfect for this occasion, and has the Porch access as a plus.

P6300142

P6300151

Following the ceremony, we were allowed to “roam” the Grand Hotel Main Lobby and porch. Photo’s were taken from the porch looking toward the Mackinaw Bridge.

P6300177

Catherine couldn’t have asked for a nicer day to have this celebration. The weather was just perfect in the high 70’s with a slight breeze off Lake Huron. Just as it was 25 years ago for her wedding celebration.

P6300169

P6300167

Such a wonderful and memorable day was had by all in attendance. One that will be remembered always. Congratulations again Catherine and Scott!

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.
