Ribs, Country, and Boat Ride

Saturday evening we had tickets to a dinner show here at Oak Haven RV Park. On the menu was a half slab of smoked ribs, slaw, and baked beans.

The ribs were smoked for over 6 hours, prepared by residents of the park.

20150207_172243 The smell of the ribs cooking had everyone in the park starving by dinner time! Inside the club house other residents were getting the slaw and baked beans ready.

20150207_172518 The dinner is what I would call a “finger lick’n” good. We were all happy Wilma remembered to bring a roll of paper towels as the small napkins just weren’t enough.

20150207_174119 After dinner we were entertained by Brett Baker, a Canadian country western singer.

20150207_172414 Brett was just fantastic! In my opinion even better than some of the professional singers you hear! He kept us entertained for over 3 hours with only 1 short break. Afterward we all headed back to our RV’s for a quiet rest full night with songs dancing in our heads.

Sunday morning the weather forcast was for sunny skies. Wilma and I took a ride to the local beaches to spend a few hours soaking up the sunshine and gazing out at the Gulf. It wasn’t meant to be as each beach we went to was so crowded that there were no parking spots to be had. Three different beaches all jammed packed, so we headed back to the RV.

Gary asked if we would like to go out on the boat. Yes, that sounds like fun, so the four of us headed to the boat here in the park and loaded our supplies. Hooked the boat to my pickup, drove the 3 minute drive to the boat launch, and before you know it we were on Lettuce Lake.

P2080063  We kept a sharp eye out for any gators, anxious to get a photo of a few. But we didn’t see any, not to say that they weren’t out of our site as this lake has plenty of them.

But we did find other treasures to photo. Like a sunken pirate’s ship.

P2080080 Plenty of dead trees with Spanish Moss hanging from them. Almost looks like a sceen in a Horror movie.

20150208_150953 Of course it wouldn’t be Florida if it weren’t for the Palm Trees.

20150208_142833 20150208_143533 P2080075 Just had to take a “selfee” photo of us enjoying the ride. I think that’s what their called.

20150208_143753 We spotted what we thought might be a Bald Eagle. But on second thought it probably was an Osprey which looks almost identical but smaller.

P2080072 We think this one might be a Large Blue Heron. Don’t really know as none of us are bird watchers.

P2080084 Of course there are plenty of these strange looking creatures on the water! :)

P2080066 I would guess these air boats are about the safest on the lakes and rivers here in Florida. You don’t have to worry about hitting any Manatee and injuring them with a motor prop.

We had a wonderful time and look forward to the next boat ride.

Until next time be safe and God Bless.
