Andy’s Can Party

Here at  Oak Haven  they have a “going away party”, also known as Andy’s Can Party. Andy was a resident of the park for many years, and came up with an idea of collecting all the aluminum cans for recycling and using the money collected to host a going away party for the residents prior to the snowbirds leaving. Andy passed away several years ago, and they have formally named the party as “Andy’s Can Party” in his remembrance.
Adult liquid beverages, along with soft drinks are furnished. Jeff, a resident of the park provided the entertainment.

His singing and keyboard playing is just wonderful. We at the park have mixed emotions though. Jeff applied for a position in Daytona, FL. to teach music to the blind. As he is blind what better person to teach the blind. He and his wife Sarah, have been anxiously awaiting for the last month to hear if he was awarded the position, and just a couple days ago he was notified that he got the position.

They are so happy to have the position, but have mixed feelings also about having to leave all the friends they have here at Oak Haven.
In past years of the party, it has been known that a few would end up in the pool. This year however there seemed to be a lack of those wanting to go into the pool. We, Wilma and myself, Greg and Cherie, and Kathy decided we would “break the ice” and be the first.

The water was warm, around 83F. the air was warmer, around 90F. So it wasn’t breath taking when entering.

It wasn’t long after that a few others joined in the pool fun.

After the pool, we were cooled down a bit, and returned to our refreshments and good conversations.

A few liquid refreshments, a jump in the pool, and one actually starts to feel like you have Palm Trees growing out of your head!

Our days here in Sunny Florida with our “winter family” is coming to an end. We will miss all the fun we have here, but are getting excited for our trip back north to Michigan to see our real family.
Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Orange Blossoms and Lunch with Family

A few days ago we were sitting outside under the awning enjoying the warm weather. Wilma says “What is that wonderful smell?” After awhile we figured it out. It was Orange Blossoms in bloom. One can smell them from miles away.

As we headed to Arcadia today we passed many Orange Orchards. Even though the temperature was up in the mid 80’s we had the windows opened enjoying the aroma.
We arrived at Chili’s to have lunch with Bruce, a second cousin of Wilma’s and has lived in sunny Florida for many years.

Joining us was his friend Jami and her daughter Amber.
Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Moose Wings

That title ought to catch a few readers! Here they are, with pizza and fries:

You just can’t beat the food that is served at the Punta Gorda, FL. Moose Lodge. The best wings I’ve had so far. And as a bonus the price is less than 1/2 the cost of a regular restaurant.
There were 10 of us from the rv park that went to dinner last night.

A first time for Cousin Bill Price and his Wife Cherie.

I missed Wilma in each of the photo’s I took! Sad smile Sorry Hon, next time I’ll make sure your in the photo’s.
We will be returning next week on St. Patrick’s day for a Corned Beef dinner, which I have no doubt will be delicious.
Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

RV Park Putt Putt and RV Park Plague

For a minimal fee of only $6 per person, we signed up for the annual Park Putt Putt Golf. Included is a made up 18 hole course, as much refreshments as one would want, and a great submarine sandwich for lunch.
Our group decided to wear matching shirts, which were the hit of the afternoon of all who attended.

The game isn’t taken serious by anyone, just a fun time of kidding around with each other and laughter. Below Wilma is telling Cheri the best way to get around the tree and recycle bin.

You have to be careful around the street that you keep the ball on the grass. If you over shoot and end up on the street your golf ball heads far away from the hole you are trying to get into. This caused one of our players to get a score of 14 when it should only take 3 to 5 shots to accomplish. Of course the ribbing goes to the golfer who does that not just from their team but other teams that are playing next to the street. I believe everyone, at one time or another, has had that experience.
Afterward we all headed to the club house to get our lunch that was included.12806025_10209110904436767_4243972954186972257_n
This year the tenants of the RV Park had a new strain of Plaque go through it.  Some were sick for up to 2 weeks, even having to go to the hospital to get an injection to cure them. It always starts with a sinus drainage. For some folks it ended up settling in their lungs, which meant a trip to the Docs. We thought we wouldn’t get it but yesterday the sinus problems hit me. So today I’ll just sit around and rest. Sitting out in the sunshine when I can and keep taking my cold pills. Hopefully within a couple day’s have this kicked. Maybe Wilma will be lucky and won’t catch this.
Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

First Taste of “Indian” Food

This morning Jim came over and asked if we would like to accompany them to an Indian restaurant for lunch. Never have we eaten any type of Indian food, we accepted the lunch invitation. The Royal India Restaurant is the choice restaurant Jim and Debra chose. Jim mentioned that Jeff and Sara would join us and we just knew it would be a great time. Jim and Debra helped us by explaining each dish on the buffet line which helped us make our choice of items to try.
As I didn’t take any photo’s of the food we ate, I have to rely on photo’s that I found on the web.

Most of the food looked very spicy, but as we found out they weren’t spicy and had a special flavor to themselves. Wilma and I enjoyed our newly discovered restaurant and thanks go out to Jim and Debra for inviting us along for lunch.
This week’s weather looks like it’s finally getting back to normal winter temperatures.

A cousin of mine arrived yesterday for a month’s stay at Oak Haven RV Park. Can’t wait to be able to spend some time with them and show them all the fun places we have discovered.
Until next time, be safe and God Bless.
