Our Living Room Receives A Face Lift

It’s been along time of planning and work, but finally after 2½ months the Living Room is completed.

It started with me removing the old carpeting. Not just the living room but the adjoining hallway leading to the kitchen, the staircase and hallway leading upstairs to the bedrooms and bathroom.

Then came the painting, starting with the upstairs hallway and the staircase. Note: I Hate Painting On Staircases! 20160609_135957

Next came the installation by Empire of carpeting on the stairs and hallway. We like the outcome.20160613_10264820160613_102709

Then came the painting of the living room and adjoining hallway. Followed by Empire to strip the old sub flooring out and install new sub flooring. 20160628_13513020160628_13515220160628_155513

For a week we had to wait for the new hardwood to acclimate to the humidity level in the house. This is what we looked at for a week.20160628_183401

Finally after a couple phone calls to Empire, (they thought the job was completed!) they sent another crew out to install the hardwood. This crew was more mature and seemed to have much more experience than the first crew. 20160706_103204

We are very pleased with our choice to go with hardwood flooring instead of more carpeting. 20160706_183602

Now that the floor is complete it was time to go shopping for a couple recliner chairs.

Ta-Da…We now have “electric” rocking recliners. The wood rocker does not stay. 20160712_073406

While all this was going on we had our couch and my Grandmothers chair sent out to the local Upholster shop to have them re-upholstered. The before of each:20160603_11235120160604_045404

Ta-Da….They came back looking completely brand new!20160725_10562220160729_184741

We are very pleased with the out come of our “patient” and it’s new “facelift”. 20160730_10032920160730_100354

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.

Camping with Grandkids

The past 4 days was our annual Camping with Grandkids trip. This year only 2, Brooke and Rebecca,  of the 5 could make it, and it was the hottest 4 days of this summer. With Saturday’s temperature hitting 98F.  it kind of felt like this:P7210072

Even the dog, Kybee, breathing very heavy had to stay inside the camper most of the days. Temps in the camper were hitting the mid 80’s with the air on! Wow was it a warm one. But we all survived and had a great time.

One of the traditions was to go to the campground store and purchase an ice cream cone. But as the temperatures were so warm we opted for the “bowl instead of a cone”. 20160722_175026

Afterwards later that evening when the temperatures dropped a little, it was time for a camp fireDisappointed smile and S'mores.20160723_193044

As the sunset, there were fire flies to catch and a beautiful sunset to watch.20160721_212517

We all had a great time and look forward to next year when hopefully Savannah will be able to join us.

Until next time be safe and God Bless.

Too Busy to Post a Blog Post

It’s been almost 3 months since my last post. Just have been way too busy! With what? Yard work, painting, and a thousand other things.

I had planned on painting the living room and hallway, along with the staircase and upstairs hallway this spring. But first I removed the old carpet. I started with the upstairs hallway working my way down the staircase. Thank goodness I have the Little Giant Ladder to work from when painting that staircase. 20160609_135913

Finally after what seemed like a short life time, the painting of the hallway and staircase was completed. New carpet from Empire was installed with great results. 20160613_102709

Time to start on the living room, it’s in need of a new paint job and new floor. We decided to remove the old carpeting and have hardwood installed. 20160608_09312420160608_093344So started the shopping for hardwood flooring and setting up times for the “estimators” to show up, take measurements and put in their bids. In the mean time I started the painting of the living room and adjoining hallway. 20160627_162611 Next came the installation of the new hardwood floors, or so the installers thought when they arrived. But found that they first needed to remove the old sub floor and install a new sub floor.20160628_122927It took them 9 hours to remove the old sub floor, install the new sub floor, and bring in the new boxes of hardwood. Then stack them so they could acclimate to the home humidity levels. 20160628_183401Another week goes by before I phoned Empire to remind them that this job is not completed! They re-scheduled me the next morning with another crew to install the hardwood. 20160706_103204Finally, a long month from the time I removed the carpet until the new floor is completed! 20160706_181842We are having our couch re-upholstered and don’t expect it until next week sometime.20160712_073421 But we figure our new electric rocking recliners will work until then.20160712_073406

We look forward to enjoying our “new” living room for many many years to come.

Until next time, be safe and God Bless.
